Having a second child comes with many blessings that shift your life in directions that you could have never imagined. To share with you guys, I needed some personal time to realign priorities and focus on taking care of our family’s newest addition, Sienna.

Now that Sienna is more independent - eating solid foods, trying to stand-up by herself, and sleeping more on a regular schedule - I finally felt ready to re-engage my energy back into Laia Baby.

Laia Baby started off as just an idea from a mom who felt the need for quality baby essentials that are consciously made. Our focus always has been on empowering women and creating a better world for our little ones. The company is not only a small business run by a mom but also serves as a space for every mom to share their unique walks in motherhood.

Motherhood can be scary, not knowing “what to expect” (literally) in any stage: pregnancy, labor, birth, infant & toddlerhood, and the list goes on. But when you hear from other moms who have gone through what you are going through, there is this sense of accountability and solidarity that comes with it.

Notes from Mom, a blog series I started on Laia Baby, was such a healing venue for me and our readers to say the least. There is a range of stories of moms from all different walks in life - first-time moms to grand-moms - that inspired me to rethink about what love is and how to love.

As much as motherhood is important though, ever since Sienna came into our life, the importance of ‘dad’ has been hitting me hard. Sienna absolutely loves Peter (Alaia does too but it’s a little different). Maybe her attachment to him formed from me being too busy running around taking care of Alaia… But for some reason, Sienna’s eyes are always locked into my husband’s and it really is fascinating to see that special bond forming between them.

So as I enter this next phase of Laia Baby, I would like to introduce a new series called Notes from Dad. Alongside with Notes from Mom, we will be featuring stories of dads and their unique walks in fatherhood. Our first post will be a special one, so stay tuned! ;)

If you are interested in being featured or know anyone who would like to contribute, please post a comment below or DM me on Instagram/Facebook and we would love to hear your story!

With much love,

Soo

WHAT IS LOVE TO YOU?

Love is understanding, even when you don't want to. Compromise and compassion. I don't think it starts and ends at a feeling. It takes work and a choice to not give up, no matter what it takes. It takes lowering your pride and apologizing, even if you don't want to. It's hard and wonderful and exciting. And it's such a lovely thing to experience.

THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN MOTHERHOOD?

My baby is only three months old and as cliche as it sounds, all his little moments are so memorable to me. We weren't expecting a little so fast in our marriage but it has been the most exciting, challenging, and life changing experience we have ever had. Seeing the light and life in his eyes is the most encouraging thing. Hearing him trying to laugh. Seeing him smile as he recognizes me. When he first rolled over. All the things!

ENCOURAGING MESSAGE FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

To always be yourself. To never stray from what you stand for. To always be kind to others and to never let anyone feel less than themselves. To never have to explain why they are who they are and to stand confident in that.

WHAT IS LOVE TO YOU?

1 John 4:8-10  [ God Is Love ]

Love is so deep. And for me, is from God, in God, through God and because of that, I am able to love others because of His great sacrifice and presence in my life. Love is complex yet simple. Love is tangible and felt. I can love tea, love a friend and love my husband and do so for each in completely different ways. Love stretches beyond the imagination and that which we can comprehend and breaks boundaries and structures of law. It is unknown and it is hidden. It blossoms and it spreads. Love can be unexpected and the feelings just happen. And love is also a CHOICE.

THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IN MOTHERHOOD?

Could I write a book about this? There are so many moments in the past (almost 8) years that I could pick moments of magnificence in my motherhood journey. Conversations with my children. Snuggles on a Saturday morning. Dance parties, tea parties, all the parties. Curiosity in questions from those "Why?" years. The moment the babies begin to crawl. And eat. And walk. Christmases and birthdays. Watching my husband interact with our kids. So many memories flood to my mind.

I think most memorable for all my life would be moments in their birth stories. I can instantly go back to those moments of laboring and contracting in preparation for their arrival. Such pain and agony. And such sweetness and passion involved in those memories. My last 3 children were home-births and I vividly wrote out their birth stories, so it's easy for me to read and reflect back and feel the exact same emotions I felt as I was living them.

I tend to have very long labors (up to 3 days long) and the intensity of the pain is unbearable at times. And the exhaustion is unequivocally numbing. But that moment that I'm pushing the baby out and they are all of a sudden in my arms- there is no other feeling like it in the world. All the pain is gone and nothing else matters. The tears flow. Hard. There is laughter. There is this intense joy that is unmatchable. And all is right in the world. As I hold my precious newborn baby, fresh from my womb. What a beautiful process.

ENCOURAGING MESSAGE FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

To proudly be who God uniquely and perfectly made you to be.

Pursue your passions. Chase your dreams. (And dream big.) And never be afraid to shine your light. You are worthy, you are capable, you are equipped. You are lovely. You are one-of-a-kind. There is none like you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. So, BE YOU. Because there is only one you. And this world needs you.

Do the things you want to do. Care about others. Work hard. Always do your best. Love others. Cherish moments. Live for today.
